Bible Study – Bible Devotional – Bible Lesson What is Repentance?
What Does Repent Mean? When asked, what does repent mean, or what
is repentance, most people will define repentance by saying it means, to turn from sin. While that’s an okay definition, it’s
not a full Biblical definition of repentance. For example, if you had a roommate who constantly
stole your stuff, but every time you confronted them about they apologized, with tears and
everything. But, still just a few days later you’d catch
them again taking your stuff. Would you say that their repentance was real? Probably not. We see a scenario similar to that in,
Jeremiah 34. The people gave God their word, but soon after
turned right around and continue to do what they said they wouldn’t, and God judges
them for it. Verses 15-16 read, “You recently repented
and did what was right in my eyes… but then you turned around and profaned my name.” Repentance is more than saying I’m sorry. It’s more that feeling bad. It’s more than just turning from sin. The Biblical definition of repentance means,
“to change one’s mind.” Will power to stop and turn from sin just
isn’t enough. To truly repent, God needs to be the one that
changes our mind about the way we see sin. Psalm 97:10 “O you who love the LORD, hate
evil!” True repentance happens when we see sin as
God sees sin. How does he see it? As Evil. Rebellious. Prideful. Hateful. Hurtful. Every time we choose to sin, we tell God,
this sin fulfills me more than you do. What does it mean to repent, it’s to see
sin, as God sees it. To hate sin, like God hates it. When we do, the action of turning from sin,
to Jesus, is that much easier. If you’re struggling with sin, pray that
God would change the way you see that sin. That’s today’s Bible Munch If today’s devotional was encouraging

  2. Thanks so much this really help me find gods plan for me and I just want to know what he wants me to do and this really helps

  3. God is so amazing! Any sin, any sin at all….He is willing to forgive. But, we do have to ask for forgiveness. He does forgive, but He also equips us with what we need to surrender our sin.

  4. Wow. I've never undertand the true meaning of repentance until I watched this. Thankyou so much, Brother!!!
God bless you more & more!

  5. Repentance is just not a word that we are familiar with anymore. it's become a foreign word to many so I'm glad you covered what it means. Peter told the people to "Repent AND turn." You're right. it all starts with that mind transformation which can only truly come from the conviction of the Holy spirit.

  6. Amen bro. That is exactly how it is defined in the Greek text, "A change of Mind." A very detailed and well illustrated video. keep up the good work man

  7. Repentance is the place of Gods mercy where we simply confess our our sins and he is faithful and just to forgive our sins he clearly teaches us to forgive seventy times seven even when we continue to fail he remains faithful he clearly teaches us to repent turn away from the sin of dead works hebrews 6 (seeking your own righteousnes which is earthly and the same as the pharisees this way of thinking that will turn you away from the Glory of God and you will be looking for your own righteousness. the righteousness we need is not from this world john 3 and the transformation that we need comes not from own own efforts to please God but rather that we be transformed from above seeking his Glory and not our own . eg Jesus teaches us a lot in john 15. we can do nothing without him if we want anything we can ask and we need to abide in his love and his word. so now we ask for all these things to pray more to read more to seek Gods glory and seek his righteousness and praise him for his goodness and mercy. so when we sin we ask for forgiveness we need him to wash us and make us new and to give us a new life in him. we will not know the knowledge of God in our own mind that is why we need to seek him with all our hearts and now we ask for all these things to glorify him for what he has done and is doing. the lie of the devil in this age is that we try to fix our lives when we actually need a new one because of Gods righteousness. the new life that we need is that of his complete work on the cross.

  9. In the Old Testament, God "repents" over 30 times. That never lead Him to a change in behavior or making it easier for Him to turn from His sins resulting in changes in behavior or lifestyle. Turning or using any verb connected to "repent" ie, "TURNING from your sins", is a "work" no matter how you slice it or in what context you use it in.
The meaning of the word "repent" is the same in both the New and the Old Testaments.♡

  11. Brother, how do you change your mind? Who can change the mind? Is that what really means to repent? Can you guarantee yourself that you did changed your mind and cannot sin against God by our thoughts?

  12. bible munch, I really have a change of heart but at times I feel the devil or evil one will tempt me what do I do

  13. How shall a man be just with God? How shall the sinner be made righteous? It is only through Christ that we can be brought into harmony with God, with holiness; but how are we to come to Christ? Many are asking the same question as did the multitude on the Day of Pentecost, when, convicted of sin, they cried out, "What shall we do?" The first word of Peter's answer was, "Repent." Acts 2:37, 38. At another time, shortly after, he said, "Repent, . . . and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out." Acts 3:19. {SC 23.1}
    Repentance includes sorrow for sin and a turning away from it. We shall not renounce sin unless we see its sinfulness; until we turn away from it in heart, there will be no real change in the life. {SC 23.2}

  14. thank you I needed to hear that. your video followed after I watched a news broadcast that I commented on calling them bad names. anyways ,, thank you .I enjoy what you doing

  15. Thank you brother🙏🙏🙏I am struggling with Repenting and I am praying trying to learn to hate sin. Please Pray for me anyone and help me

  16. With all due respect, this is an accurate teaching, according to the OLD Covenant ie "just feel & act like God & everything will be okay."
In the new covenant our repentance is when we turn towards God &, at that point, we are done repenting because we've already been forgiven & the meaning & purpose of life is learning to receive the perfect love & acceptance your God has for you (as evidenced by His dying on our behalf "while we were yet sinners") absent any "perfection" you may have to offer Him.

The notion that we can generate this type of repentance is a carnal one & is NOT supported anywhere in Scripture, but it was something the Pharisees were devoted to.

  17. ok, change our thought, but what action needs to be taken….this is used in the divorce remarriage debate….can one repent of a non Biblical remarriage, and yet stay in that relationship…..

  18. Thank you for explaning the real meaning of repentance and your prayer advice, I always thought it's just feeling sorry and asking for forgiveness, but I just end up in condemnation. Now i know the renewing of mind is to turn to God and be changed by His truth.

  19. Amen i need God to help me because sometimes i say "oh God forgive me because I will not do that again but I end up doing it again 😭

  20. Carla Linton. God is a loving and forging God. And people that have sin repent of their sins and turn from their wicked ways. Then God will hear from them and forgive them for their sins.

  21. I've been praying hard for God to help me see a certain sin that im struggling with the way he would see it. I've been begging God to help me repent and change my mind.
