The Church For People Who Are “Spiritual, But Not Religious”

(hip hop instrumental beat) – Welcome. We’re gathered here today
because we are spiritual. But not like religious, you know. ♫ I don’t believe in organized religion ♫ Except for Eastern religion
which I am interested in ♫ It’s just like deeper ♫ We are here today because we reject the bullshit from one book, so we can cherry-pick and choose the bullshit we like better from a whole bunch of different books. Do we believe in a god with a capital G? Maybe. Maybe not. We haven’t decided yet. But tell me that when you look at a sun setting over a hill, you don’t feel a connection
with something greater. I believe in an energy… (ecstatic groaning) That connects us, binds us together and it’s vibratin’ and stuff. You know what I mean? – [In unison] Totally. – I get it. – Now everyone open your
Twitter feeds to @DeepakChopra. Our innermost awareness
is a portal to divinity. That is so vague, but I know exactly what he means. Jacob. – Thank you very much. Hello everybody. I would like to read a passage from the Moleskine I write
ideas in when I’m stoned. What if God isn’t a he? What if he is a she? Or a deer? Hear me out. I was at a music fest, I
was outside takin’ a piss and this deer walks up and
we make intimate eye contact and he just started pissin’. He was pissin’ as soon as I was pissin’. It’s one of the most spiritual things that I’ve ever experienced. – Wow. – And I light this in remembrance of the first time that I did mushrooms. – Mindblowing. – Yeah, dude. – Thank you, Jacob. Thank you for sharing with us everything you remember from your
liberal arts degree. Take it away, Melissa. ♫ I don’t believe in hell and heaven ♫ But I’m on the fence about reincarnation ♫ Namaste ♫ Thank you for joining me today. It is so nice to talk to
intelligent individuals who can rationally see that science hasn’t figured it all out. – Yeah. – We get you. – Now if you’ll all open your
meditation apps on your phone and set it to 15 minutes. But first, let’s all give each other a hug and let the physics of
love claim your chakras. Oh, those are some good hugs. Oh, what a nice hug over here. You two hug back there. C’mere. Oh yeah. Now that’s a good fuckin’ hug. – Thanks for watching. Click here to subscribe,
click here for more videos or don’t click at all. I don’t give a fuck. I do, I give many fucks. Please click.

  1. Okay. I’m agnostic and not sure how to feel about this video. I can relate, but even I raised my eyebrow at a few of the lines.

  2. I don't like the way that video mocks spiritual people and spirituality!
Is it true that only by faith in Jesus we can be truly human and humane? I doubt it more and more (for so many reasons).
I was an atheist until I reached age 20; then I got "awakened" and converted to Christ, followed by 18 years being an evangelical fundamentalist (very often unhappily, full of doubts—sometimes intellectual, sometimes concerning my state of being saved); then I devonverted, turned away from God completely and thoroughly; then — roughly ten years later — I felt the need to find a way back to "God", prayed, found new hope, developed some interest in progressive christianity and now, it seems to me, I was hunt down by reality just few months ago and don't know anymore if it's in any way reasonable or spiritually helpful or even spiritually mature to believe in "salvation" and "eternal life". Christians seem—for some part at least—always striving to live in the future (longing for the day they will not be in this "body of sin" any longer and be united with "their Lord" for all eternity) whereas non-christian spirituality focuses on being aware of living in the "here and now". A practice that can lead to a deeply fulfilling lifestyle.
… One lady in the video reads Eckhard Tolle's "The power of Now"—here's a short excerpt I love very much:

"If you remain in conscious connection with the Unmanifested, you value, love, and deeply respect the manifested and every life form in it as an expression of the one Life beyond form.
You also know that every form is destined to dissolve again and that ultimately nothing out here matters all that much."
(Eckhart Tolle, "The Power of Now")

… Has christianity something better to offer? I don't know.

  3. This video is supposed to be ironic, like a comedian hitting a superficial point about a subject he thinks he understands by naming all the characteristic elements of it, but really hits the core because many people actually live it and feel it.

  4. 1:21 This woman’s dead-eyed stare, mouth agape, and hair tussle as she mindlessly unlocks her smart phone is the best representation of the vacuous “spiritual” I’ve ever seen.

  5. Greetings. Just two points. Being "spiritual" means you believe in soul mythology. They are not especially flaky, they are just saying their nonsense out loud. Most of our population didn't learn anything in school – they are completely ignorant, like a kid. That's why they can believe in almost anything a child would. Bye. 🙂

  6. Not all "spiritual but not religious"people are new-age wack-a-dos. I consider myself Christian because I read the Bible and try to live by Christ's teachings, but I don't go to a church where someone else is going to tell me how I should be interpreting God's word.

  7. Man… there are so many people who are like "this is me, LOL" in the comments. I feel like you guys didn't get it. They're saying your idea of "spirituality" is stupid because you're just picking out whatever supernatural crap makes you feel good and/or special and not just … going with what's real.

  8. This video is really clever, but I'm kind of upset that Hinduism is shown as a "hippie" religion…. these beliefs that are made fun of are actually held by millions to be true….

  9. “I’m spiritual, but not religious” is like saying I believe in health and exercise but I don’t follow an exercise routine or diet.

See religion (Catholic Church the only church that Jesus established) gives you a set of rules (diet and exercise routine) in order to reach union with God after death (being healthy). One that does not practice prayer, meditation, fast, sacrifice, love thy neighbor, the rejection of the concupiscence of the flesh only and much more only entertains the thought of spirituality and Jesus but does not truly follow it.

Why many young people hate religion is because they truly never took the time to study it, follow the church that Jesus established or it doesn’t fit the sexy narrative the world and Satan wants us to live. I was there…

Now I try educate myself and follow our holy doctrine because that is what God wants from us. It’s not as easy as saying Jesus loves us and forgives us. That is creating a God to your liking.

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. God Bless!

  10. I'm very atheist, but something I can most definitely agree with from the Bible is that lukewarm is disgusting

  11. I’m an ex Muslim who went back to his ancestors ancient spiritual philosophy of Hinduism, or as I prefer to call it, Sanatan Dharma

    ⚔️🕉Jai Shri Ram 🕉⚔️

  12. Well, it isn't bad. I mean, that burning bush Moses saw was probably some cannabis plant. Why believe in another guy's drug hallucination just because it was a few thousand years ago? You can get your own hallucinations anytime you want.

  13. OK, but why does the red-haired girl at 0:25 look like the girl from opposite sex roomates from buzzfeed

  14. Oh my! I couldn't stop laughing by seeing this bullshit video😄… But, I can relate …. I'm spiritual, I believe in God, but religious rites really sucks 😌😌😌😌

  15. i've watched this video so many times, and realised the blonde guy in the audience wears different shirts in different scenes HAHA

  16. I'm not spiritual or religious and I think all of that stuff is a load of crock that I dont care about ^^ but yall do yall

  17. THIS IS SO PAINFULLY ACCURATE ESPECIALLY THE LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE 🤣 back when Collegehumor wasn’t biased to one side iql

  18. It's all bullshit, religion and spirituality, I am an atheist, all this is just a bloody business. Books sell and make authors money, church owners and people who organise spiritual shows get donations from the govt and from the people. These people are one of the richest mofos in my country. They fool you into thinking that you will reach enlightenment. The real thing is if you want to be happy you have to let go of things and try to find things which make you happy. Never giving up is the answer, there is no god there is no spirituality. Only this beautiful planet and one life to live. People need to stop wasting our resources in BS, although better than religion , spiritual people are also a headache for the society. Sometimes doing nothing and supporting the wrong thing is also dangerous. It's just a waste of our resources.

  19. I was raised spritual but not religious and as of now I'm still not religious, I do however have a plan to become religious in the future
