The Biblical Truth about speaking in tongues

The Biblical Truth about speaking in tongues

Hello and welcome back. “What does the Bible say about speaking
in tongues, and how does it apply to us today?” It’s time to UNLEARN the lies. There has been a lot of confusion and debate
about the gift of speaking in tongues, but you might be surprised at what the Bible actually
teaches on this subject. Our world is full of different languages and
dialects. Most of us have experienced difficulty in communicating with someone of another language
at some point in our life. It can even be very frustrating to try to communicate with
someone who speaks a different dialect of the same language. Have you ever thought it would be so much
easier if everyone would just speak the same language? Well, the Bible says there was a
time when everyone on earth spoke the same language. “Now the whole earth had one language and
one speech.” – Genesis 11:1 The Bible also explains the origins of all
of the languages on the earth. It says that people began to gather in Shinar to build
a city with a tower that would reach up to heaven, and God decided to confuse their language
to prevent them from finishing the tower. “Come, let Us go down and there confuse
their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered
them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all
the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.”
Genesis 11:7-9 Josephus explains that the construction of
the tower was an act of defiance against God that was ordered by Nimrod, who was leading
people away from God. As a result of these events, God took action to confuse the languages
of the people. He also explains that the confusion of languages was a punishment for their sin. “When God saw that they acted so madly,
he did not resolve to destroy them utterly, since they were not grown wiser by the destruction
of the former sinners [in the Flood]; but he caused a tumult among them, by producing
in them diverse languages, and causing that, through the multitude of those languages,
they should not be able to understand one another.”
– Flavius Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews These various languages were given for the
express purpose of causing confusion and separation among the people. The confusion of languages
was the result of pride and sin, and this confusion is referred to as “Babel”. The
dictionary defines babel as “a confusion of sounds or voices, a scene of noise or confusion.” Now, with that in mind, consider what God
did in Acts chapter 2, when the Holy Spirit enabled the disciples to speak in other tongues
so that everyone who was present could understand them in their own language. “And they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there
were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this
sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard
them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one
another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each
in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling
in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and
the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans
and Arabs–we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
Acts 2:4-11 This event in Acts was a complete reversal
of what happened at the Tower of Babel. All of the people who were present spoke different
languages, but the Holy Spirit caused them all to understand what was being said in their
own native tongue. The disciples were able to preach the message without the hindrance
of language barriers, and the confusion caused by Babel was no longer a problem for the Gospel.
This is what Paul was trying to explain when he said, “Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to
those who believe but to unbelievers…” 1 Corinthians 14:22 Why are tongues a sign to unbelievers? Because
it removes the confusion of languages, and allows them to hear the truth unhindered.
This is important, because Yeshua had recently commissioned the disciples to go into all
the world and preach the Gospel. How could they teach other nations about God if they
did not speak the language of the people they were teaching? This realization makes the
gift of tongues vital to the Gospel message, because without it, the disciples would not
have been able to reach as many people as they did. I believe that modern Christianity has undervalued
the gift of tongues, while Charismatic Churches have completely misunderstood its purpose.
I am speaking from experience, because I have been a member of both pentecostal and non-pentecostal
churches, and I have had to UNLEARN a lot of things that I was taught in both of those
backgrounds. Most pentecostal churches place a lot of emphasis on speaking in unknown tongues,
while non-pentecostal churches ignore and often oppose the gift of tongues altogether. A common belief among Pentecostal/Charismatic
Christians is that speaking in tongues is “the evidence” of the baptism of the Holy
Spirit. However, if speaking in tongues is the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit,
then everyone who is baptized with the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues, but that is
not what the Bible says. After describing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, Paul makes a
series of rhetorical questions which show us that not everyone will speak in tongues. ”Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are
all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak
with tongues? Do all interpret?” 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 The answer to all of these questions is an
obvious and resounding “no”. We are not all apostles, prophets, teachers, miracle
workers, and we do not all speak in tongues or interpret. Paul also explained that gifts are given individually
as they are needed. ”for to one is given the word of wisdom
through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another
faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another
the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another
different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the
same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 Notice that Paul does not say everyone receives
the gift of tongues. He says, “to one is given the word of wisdom… to another different
kinds of tongues” He also explains that the gifts are given individually as the Spirit
wills. Therefore, you cannot claim that everyone receives the gift of tongues, when the Bible
clearly says otherwise. There is not a single gift that everyone receives. They are all
distributed individually as the Spirit sees use for them. Therefore, if a gift is not
needed, it will not be given. Modern Pentecostal Christians have been led
to believe that the gift of speaking in tongues has to do with speaking an unknown language,
however, the Bible portrays it as the supernatural ability to speak in known languages that can
be interpreted and understood by others for the purpose of spreading the Gospel to all
nations. This gift goes hand-in-hand with the gift of interpretation. ”If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there
be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no
interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God…
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints…
Let all things be done decently and in order.” 1 Corinthians 14:27,28,33,40 When the gift of tongues is used there must
always be an interpretation, or else the message is lost. Paul also cautions that only two
or three people at most should be allowed to take turns speaking in tongues. These verses
are often ignored by most Pentecostal churches today when multiple people speak in tongues
all at once, and without any interpretation given. This type of misuse has created confusion
and frustration for many sincere believers. I would argue that much of what has been labeled
as “speaking in tongues” is actually just babel, because babel causes confusion. The
gift of tongues was given for the purpose of making the message easier to understand,
not harder. Many people have also claimed that when they
speak in tongues, they are not in control, but the spirit takes over their mouth and
speaks for them. However, the Bible says that we should be “self-controlled”. The Holy
Spirit does not possess us like some devil. The only Biblical examples we have of someone
losing control of their own mouth is when a demon possesses the person. that is why
we are told “do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of
God.” (1 John 4:1) Many people also like to refer to speaking
in tongues as their “spiritual language”, which is a phrase the Bible never uses, and
sounds more like what is spoken of in New Age spirituality. Every example we have in
the Bible of speaking in tongues is someone speaking in a known language that can be understood
or interpreted by others present. There is not one example of someone speaking in unknown
tongues that cannot be understood or interpreted. The Bible clearly explains that tongues must
be understood or interpreted, or else it is useless. ”So likewise you, unless you utter by the
tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be
speaking into the air. There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and
none of them is without significance. Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language,
I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me…
Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret… Otherwise, if you
bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at
your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?… Therefore if the whole church
comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who
are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?”
1 Corinthians 14:9-11,13,16,23 Tongues without interpretation is useless
babel. It serves no purpose. The purpose of speaking in tongues is so the Gospel can be
spread to all nations without the hinderance of language barriers. This gift would be extremely
valuable to a missionary living in a foreign land. The gifts of the Spirit are given for the
expansion of the kingdom, and we should all desire that the Holy Spirit would empower
us with the gifts that we need to spread the Gospel. If you are not spreading the Gospel in your
native language, why should the Holy Spirit give you another language? Many people speak in tongues as a way to feel
or appear more spiritual. They see it as a way to build themselves up, and to make a
name for themselves spiritually. But this is the same attitude the people at the tower
of Babel had, they wanted to make a name for themselves, so God confused their language,
and called it Babel. The Bible says the gifts are given to build
up the Church, not the individual. If you have a spiritual gift, you should be using
it to bring glory to God and expand His kingdom. If you are using the gifts for any other purpose,
you are wasting your gifts. We should all desire that the Holy Spirit would empower
us with the gifts we need to spread the Gospel, not to make ourselves feel more spiritual. If you have any questions about this teaching,

  1. Thank you SO much. I got into the false speaking of tongues, and later found out it was demonic. I’ve asked God to let me please meet others who have been through this same thing and were delivered. I’ve come a long way but would like to hear others testimonies about this

  2. Be careful to lead people astray.
1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

  3. So if that's the case. Explains where all of the interpreters were on the day of pentacost. Speaking in tongues is a heavenly language. The bible says that they were all filled with the holy ghost and spake with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. Wonder what spirit that was? Be very careful on what you believe from another. Search out the scripture and you will find that this is a wonderful gift from God.

  4. Hi. Thanks to Almighty Yahweh that you elaborated on this topic. Concerning this same theme, I will appreciate it if you explained 1 Corinthians 14. Thank you

  5. I pretty much agree with a few exceptions.

    1. While Peter was preaching at Cornelius' house in Acts 10, in verse 44 it says ALL who heard the message were filled with the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues. It says the Jews with Peter were astonished that Gentiles also received the gift of the Holy Spirit. How did they recognize that they really received? Verse 46 say "For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God". Coupled with the fact that all of the 120 spoke in tongues and all of the 12 men in Ephesus in Chapter 19 spoke in tongues, I believe that all saints have the initial ability to speak in tongues as a sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, not it necessarily being a gift.

    2. Tongues do exist and should be interpreted. The church I go to, they are spoken (and it sound like babble) and interpreted.

    3. I believe there are tongues which all believers has to worship and pray to God in their personal spaces and gift of tongues that are used in congregational settings which MUST be interpreted be it language or an unknown tongue.

Sidenote: Prophecy (conveying God's Word) is another gift for all saints.

  6. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. ~1 Corinthians 14:2~

I pray in tongues and the Holy Spirit is manifested so greatly in me when I do it looks as if all I am is a big cry baby! Tongues is between your Holy Spirit and God! We do not understand everything and will never understand everything at our current level of being! Tongues is between you and God! Very true all the scriptures you show but then you state someone must interpret. Are you forgetting the Holy Spirit, my friend!

    ~Isaiah 55:8-9~
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
    declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

  7. Speaking in tongues is not what you think it is.
If someone spoke in tongues before you,
you wouldn't notice, unless God meant for you to know.
It's a secret amongst Angels alone.
They are the saved. The 144,000.
Most of you are not amongst them.

  8. I appreciate your viewpoint. Thank you for sharing. I do believe there are nuggets of truth in what you said, some Pentecostal churches certainly do misuse tongues and I absolutely agree that it is not the Holy Spirit "possessing" your mouth as some say.
However you are wrong about it's purpose. There is only one instance in the whole of scripture that it was used to preach the gospel to people who speak other languages and that is in Acts 2. There is no other record of tongues being used in this way. Even in this instance most people there likely spoke their native tongue and Greek as that was a near universal tongue at that time. The purpose of tongues is not to preach the gospel to foreigners.

You are also taking 1 Cor. 14:22 out of context around time stamp 4:20. The whole chapter is about using spiritual gifts in an orderly fashion during church. And earlier in the chapter Paul says: "For the person who speaks in another tongue is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands him; he speaks mysteries in the Spirit."
    1 Corinthians 14:2 CSB
And: "The person who speaks in another tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church."
    1 Corinthians 14:4 CSB
The context being that prophesy builds up the church and tongues build up the individual. Paul would rather people speak prophecy in a church setting and build everyone up but claims that he himself spoke in tongues. It seems to me that it was a private part of his prayer life that built him up and in that way has multiple purposes. Maybe I will do a video in the future on speaking in tongues! This is not the best medium for all the complexities of this very interesting gift of the Holy Spirit.

Notice also that someone with the gift of interpretation of tongues is not someone who knows what language is being spoken but rather is someone who is given the interpretation by the Holy Spirit.

  9. There are '"2" tongues. One is a prayer language. Which can only be understood by GOD. The other is to edify the church. See 1 cor 14 2. The other in acts. But if you ask for wisdom it will be given anytime you read the bible.

  10. Wait a minute. Everything was good until he said we should have self control of speaking in tongues. Well, when I first received the gift last year, I had no self control. The holy spirit took over. I did not fall on the ground in my own will. I did not speak with no control out of my own will. I didn't even know what I was saying or how long it lasted. All I knew was that I felt chills and a heat wave in my stomach. And I knew it wasn't by my own strength or knowledge but God's.

  11. Oh man…. The very first time that I ever spoke in tongues, I was on the phone praying with the woman from church. I was praying for help from deliverance from alcohol, I was praying in my language, English and then all of a sudden my head lifted up towards the heavens and a beautiful fluent unknown language came out of my mouth. It only lasted about five seconds. Then A few moments later as I continued praying in my native language English my head lifted up towards the heavens again and a second time a beautiful language came out of my mouth. I was shocked! I said to the woman on the phone, “where did that come from!? “
A couple of days after that I begin praying and asking the father how in the world was I able to speak in tongues when I was intoxicated with alcohol while I was praying on the phone with my friend from church, the father spoke to my heart and told me that my soul and my mind were intoxicated but my spirit man could never be intoxicated and the Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit a prayer lifted up to the heavens for my deliverance from alcoholism.
It was one of the most profound experiences of my entire life. I was set free from alcoholism and have been free for five years, praise God!
The second experience I had with speaking in tongues, I was at a Pentecostal church with about 4000 people in the room, everyone was praying in tongues around me and it was very odd to me, I asked the father all weekend long while I was at this conference,” is this real father?
Are these people really speaking in a heavenly language and is praying in tongues like this real and beneficial and pleasing to Him?”
I had experienced it briefly before but never in a setting like this where thousands of people around me were praying in an unknown tongue out loud all at the same time. There was a charge and energy in that room. On the last day of the conference as I was standing in the middle of the crowd I had my left hand raised in the air and I was worshiping and praising God in my native language of English, suddenly I had the thought to just babble my lips and speak gibberish, like to mumble some syllables by faith, I switched from praying in English to speaking random syllables or what some would call gibberish AND IN about five seconds into it all of a sudden! 🔥🔥….I felt the power of God come through my hand into my entire body and the Holy Spirit took over my tongue, literally took over my tongue! I could feel my tongue in my mouth moving to form the syllables of an unknown language that was completely out of my control, for about 5 to 8 minutes straight I was speaking in a powerful unknown language and I had no control over it and the whole Time it was happening I kept thinking to myself this is absolutely amazing! This is very real! There is power in praying in tongues! Again, it was one of the most profound experiences of my entire life! God answered me that weekend and showed me that it was real.
I pray in tongues often now, in the shower, in my car, in my prayer time, when I’m in church praying and worshiping God I will pray in tongues out loud to myself, it has absolutely changed my life and my prayer life. I never once criticized anyone and I never questioned anyone, and I certainly never judged anyone, I just asked the father about it between me and Him in my prayer time and He showed me! He absolutely showed me there is truth and power in it and it is for the Saints! Hallelujah!!

  12. QUESTION????
Why COMMERCIALS and Advertisements before the WORD OF TRUTH video clip?????

Didn't the scriptures clearly stated Proverbs 23v23 buy the Truth and sell it not?
. Isn't it written Isaiah 55v1 come buy milk, wine etc. Without money.

Are you being paid for having commercial, advertising on your video??

. Paul the Apostle 2 Corinthians 11v7 freely I preach.

. You can ask for a offerings from viewers if the channel been a blessing to them.??

I just think that these advertisements are nuisances, and annoying sometimes.

    Love in Christ

  13. I've had people tell me that they use tongues to talk to God and deepen the relationship. I don't doubt their love for God, but i reply with, "try speaking to a loved one in a tongue and see if that is fruitful for the relationship".

  14. Very good overview of this. Thanks
Notice that the Corinth church is the only time in all of Paul’s epistles that he addressed tongues and that was because there where people of various dialects all praying in their own languages which resulted in chaos and confusion. The Corinth church had a very diverse make up of believers from all over the empire according to theologians. Paul tells us in church no more than two or three should speak in tongues and that it would be prophecy. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent and speak in tongues to God privately. Tongues are meant for unbelievers not believers. This way the unbeliever is convicted and experiences God’s Holy Spirit presence and gives him glory.
Pray in tongues while your alone and to God directly and that it edifies you. Not everyone babbling words that are not a known language somewhere in the world.
Sorry but people shaking their head violently like some head bangers at a hard rock concert is not of the Holy Spirit. The screaming incoherent words out of their mouthes is not the gift of tongues. Again, Paul states God is not a God of disorder but of peace as in all churches of the saints. That behavior in Jesus days would have been treated as demon possession. My church openly encourages praying in the spirit but only a handful including the pastors pray like that with unknown babbling syllables and weird words with no one interpreting and myself and others feel uncomfortable because we do not, it is doing just what Paul discourages. That as Paul states is not edifying the church. I’m still seeking guidance and revelation from God thru prayer on this gift.

  15. There is a difference between speaking in tongues and praying in tongues. In all my years in pentecostal churches I have only seen false tongues one time, and it was someone praying in them at the altar, not giving a message to the church. There is a difference between speaking in tongues and praying in them. 1 Corinthinans 14 speaks of a prayer language. I have seen people shout out their prayer language when they shouldn't have, and the pastor had to deal with it accordingly, but it wasn't anything demonic.

  16. 1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV)
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
(The gift of interpreters are from God and tounges is mostly used to communicate to God not man.)

  17. Please do not believe that, that was the language at the time of the tower of babel. That is the language of heaven do you think they speak all the language of the world which one do you think they should use and on what occasion,? Why does Corinthian say tho you speak with tongues of angels. etc.,. God gave me tongues and gave me songs. In tongues and when I want to praise Him I sing in tongues and worship Him as the Holy Spirit help my infirmity for I know not how to pray or what to pray. Paul said I thank God I speak more tongues than any of you ,(not verbatim but look it up. And I thank God for this gift. Anytime there is trouble around the Holy Spirit just open my mouth and I start to pray in the language of the Holy Spirit. But it's not because you do not have tongues that you do not have our Holy Spirit but tongues is a sign. Again it's your choice. God forces no one. The devil cannot understand tongues so he disuades us from using it, how come he has his tongues as well copying God's gift.

  18. Produce the original letter then study from that. Otherwise, I'm not believing anything until I find out for myself first.

  19. In the year 2014 I got baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Since then I earnestly saught God for the baptism of the holy ghost through fasting and prayer and reading the word. I soon became discouraged because this promised gift would not manifest. I youtubed every way possible to get it, followed the advise but still nothing. I even went to the altar and tarried for it like how the penticostals practice but the practice felt cohersed and pressuring so after a few times of tarring I stopped. During that waiting and researching period I stumbled on this video but I wasn't
daunted by it, although my experience thus far was somewhat in line with what the presenter was saying, I persisted. By this time I started having dreams of speaking in tongues and waking up I would feel my mouth tingling like it had actually happened. This encouraged me because I was aware that things happened in the spirit realm before they manifest in the physical. So it was only a matter of time now. In March of 2017 while the pastor was preaching in church I was exaulting the Lord in shouts of hallelujah along with some other church members then the holy spirit fell upon me and took control of my mouth and tongues started to be released, this lasted for about
30 seconds then stopped. After wards I was so happy because I knew I had just received the baptism of the holy Spirit. All those who are seeing God for this manifestation don't stop or become discouraged trust God and seek him and you shall receive the Holy Spirit. Then you will know for sure whether this video and many comments against speaking in tongues is the Truth or a lie. May God bless you all.

  20. Talk about why the prosperity gospel is the wrong gospel. I’m glad that you talked about this, however, people need to hear about why word faith the gospel is fake false and wrong. Thank you.

  21. speaking in tongue is language of other nation . you might not know it but by the power of the holy spirit you can speak and understand. its not blah blah like how the baby speak. so yeah

  22. “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;”
    ‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:46-49‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Read all of Acts 2, but….definitely.
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  23. coming of Lord Jesus Christ in flesh
    @IleanaPirvu2014
Demonian who out cast to tongue talking new(Mark 16:17), lift up serpents!
    Why?
There is no pale to lift! For the Christ, the pale, with his dead and received by the woman, is lifted by works he does in him as He did in Christ when He walks with God and follow "in My name'.

  24. Modern version of speaking in tounges is nonsense. Speaking in tongues means while speaking your own language, the people listening who speak other languages are able to understand you because the message is translated through the spirit.
What people do in church is nonsense.

  25. 1 Cor 14:2

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. The bornagain children of God knows and enjoy the gifts of tounges privately and also in the congregation.

  26. tounges is a message to God . like thanksgiven. and praise. Profesie is a message from God to the people

  27. question if anyone can and would like to answer, wasnt all these signs and wonders ie: speaking in tongues (other languages etc) only for the apostles for the purpose of bringing the jews to Christ?? if so then all the the signs and wonders in the Bible are no longer for us but may happen again in the tribulation possibly. Any thoughts???

  28. I would love to hear your teachings on death, as in we are only sleeping when we die in the flesh. I would also love to get your insight on the 144,000 who are they and is that truly the narrow of us going to be going to heaven? Thank you. Hope to hear from you

  29. Mark 16:15-17 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.16 Whoever BELIEVES and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signswill accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

  30. Thank you brother. In 1 Corinthians 14:2, it tells us that he that speaks in an unknown tongue talks to God, not to men. There are gifts of tongues using another's home language so they can be understood, no doubt, as it plainly says that in the Word. I believe from my study in Co 1 chapt 14, that some tongues speak mysteries to God and edify the individual speaking. This, without interpatation should not be done in church, but alone, speaking with God. Unless there be an interpreter. I would encourage people to study this chapter for themselves. One of the main points is the MOST important thing is Love. Chapter 13: 4-13 defines tgat for us. It also says do not forbid tongues and that Paul desires all to speak in tongues, however it is greater to phophesy, and we should seek the greater gifts. I think God's Word must be considered in context and throughly picked apart or we risk getting half-truths. It is either true in the Word if it is there or, where do we stand on firm ground. Everyone: study methodically, completely, asking God for direction lest we miss a blessing or, more damaging, be lead astray. Let us all be humble and seek only the truth and refrain from merely winning an position we believe in. I want the truth of God's Word, wherever it lands, on my side or anothers. And I am always open to correction by the Holy Spirit. Bless you brother. Let us walk in unity and Love as God calls us to do. Amen!

  31. You are mixing apples with oranges. The Holy Spirit can cause a person to speak an unknown earthly language as well as a prayer praise angelic language, which edifies oneself. Paul spoke about it.

  32. Can you test enoch, jasher and jubilees? There's many brothers following these. I've seen them tested and fail. I dont have the resources you do or I would. Would you please so there's more information to help others so they do not fall into agreement with these books.

  33. @Unlearn the lies—-why do you find it necessary to lie and deceive people against truths in GODS WORD. You can justify (NOT) anything you want to disprove. You are of your father satan. You probably don’t believe that GOD HIMSELF still speaks to people today. Why don’t you LIE IT AWAY ALSO. You cater to folks of like itchy ears and beliefs, like birds of a feather flock together. Just know you also will bow your knees before and confess JESUS CHRIST IS LORD. The choice is yours. You cause countless many to be deceived/stumble. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST REBUKE YOU

  34. Yup that’s about it.
There are plenty of people who fake it til they make it on this issue. This is a lie. As it is a lie it is not of God but of his adversary. The promoters of this lie and those that train people how to lie in this manner are doing so right in Gods face. It mocks God directly.

  35. The gift of tongues (or any other spiritual gift for that matter) has not been given to anyone for hundreds of years. There was coming a time when all such gifts would cease 1st Corinthians 13:8. When is this time when spiritual gifts would cease? When that which is perfect is come 1st Corinthians 13:10. What does that which is perfect refer to? It refers to the bible, which is described as the perfect law of liberty James 1:25. So, we were only to have spiritual gifts until the bible was available to replace them. Once we had the bible we didn't need spiritual gifts anymore.

  36. 1 cor. 14:2. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU SPEAK OF how about that verse that says my people parish from lack of knowledge how many will you fool with this video

  37. Mat 6:7 But when you pray, do not babble like the heathen, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

2Ti 2:16  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

  38. This is only half true. Paul speaks of praying in tongues in his private prayer life. This does not necessarily require consequent interpretation. Acts does not say they were speaking in the languages of the crowd, only they heard their own languages. It is possible the crowd experienced a miracle of interpretation. Elsewhere Paul refers to speaking in the tongues of men and angels. Also, based on a study of what it means to pray with the spirit rather than the mind: a. Scripture sanctions praying in a non-intellectual manner as an option. b. In order to for prayer to bypass the mind, the spirit would need to find some way of expressing itself in the form of prayer. There is strong support that praying in the spirit is congruent with this flow of sounds referred to as speaking in tongues.

  39. There are tongues of angels as well. Also if a known language must be interpreted where is the gift then. Also Paul says that he speak more in tongues than anyone else but not infront of people. Please open everything when you want to unlearn lies. Hope this helps

  40. Paul does say that the gift of tongues was separate from the tongues of men. Even more telling is when he says "anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries in the spirit." Cor 14:2

Not sure how this could apply to only speaking a known human language.

Also not sure how you can conveniently leave this verse out of your discussion which was pretty thorough.

  41. It was even before i got baptized when i was blessed with tongues..i was praying and suddenly I started praying in a language which I could not understand..my family got scared as we were new in Christ…but it was a wonderful feeling..i felt God…from that day I pray in tongues everyday in person….and it is from God helping me grow spiritually…
I Had a doubt once while praying if it really is from God or m wasting my time but very next week God sent someone to tell me that don’t doubt while speaking in tongues as it is from me….
There have been so many time i have seen negativity being revealed while praying in tongues guided by God…
I totally disagree with you brother….

  42. As a young girl, I grew up in a church where is was believed that speaking in touch was only for the spiritually chosen. It always sounds as babbling and “takes over” the body leaving you unaware of your surrounding. Unfortunately, this WAS my truth.. with time I’ve learnt the difference and God has set me free. My mom “speaks in tongues “ and no one understands her nor is she herself when it happens. She often become “ Angelita”. I want to help her but I’m not sure how to make her understand that it isn’t a Gift from God but a demonic Babel. She believes that Angelita is her past as a child. Do you have any recommendations. My younger sister lives with my mom and often will talk to “Angelita the child”. This isn’t healthy. Please help . My mom believes in Christian, has been baptized and calls herself a child of God. I don’t want her soul to vanish

  43. Thank you for this teaching. What you said is exactly what the Bible says about speaking in tongues. I was beginning to wonder if I was the one misunderstanding the Bible. Some people say that they are speaking to God when they speak in tongues. If so, why can't that be done in private so they don't interrupt our worship of God?

  44. Oh 🤔🤔 come man mark16 :18 read your bible.and pray to God for revelation, before coming out here. I have so many verse to corroborate myself.

  45. Speaking in tongues is real!!! My fiance and I have been baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with his Holy Spirit. We both recieved the gift of speaking in tongues! We both speak in tongues. Our church speak in tongues too. Ask God for revelation and understanding.

  46. I have tried to share this truth with many but they never recieve it. Thank you for the great teaching. God bless you.

  47. You do not have the gift of the Holy Ghost therefore you are not qualified to teach God people you are teaching what you don't understand

  48. Thank you for sharing the biblical truth on speaking languages. Please, come out of the babylon people of God, do not tolerate its lies, speak loudly against its cunning strategies to lead forks astray.

  49. Lets make it easier to understand.
    Tongues = Languages (man,angels,God.)
Babel = strange sounds that mean nothing.

  50. regarding half way through the answer is Yes it is possable to be of all gifts from god there will be only few

  51. I’m glad I found this video I was attending a church for a few months that really confused me because nearly everyone in the church would start yelling and speaking in tongues but it sounded so strange and honestly scary it didn’t calm my spirit at all it made me uncomfortable because they all seemed possessed but I never had a clear understanding of why they were doing this at every church service but now I see that what they were doing wasn’t speaking in tongues but just Babel.. or am I still not clear on this?

  52. Hi Lex. Which tongues would you say the following passage refers to? I personally understand that there are 2 types of tongues that can be clearly distinguished from one another in the Bible. Tongues that other people can understand, and tongues that only God can understand (as well as those who have the gift of interpretation) as the following verse says. But what is your opinion?

For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

    1 Corinthians 14:2 (ESV)

  53. stop lying. If you have nothing to say then shut up my friend. The bible speaks of four kinds of languages. They are not the same. If you don't speak in tongues that OK but stop misleading people. Paul says himself that he would love to see everyone speaking in tongue. In Romans he refers to an intercession in tongue. You are too proud to speak in tongue anyway. The problem with you is that you make assumptions about thing you know nothing about.

  54. Theologians are full of themselves no wonder why they can't speak in tongue. Don't you worry we will come to you for doctrinal issues not for speaking in tongue. otherwise, it is like bringing your broken car to a Professor of Mechanical Engineering to fix, it will never get done while a regular mechanic who hasn't been to college at all will fix the damn thing in a second. That's the beauty of life my friend everyone has a role to play. So just focus on more difficult theological matters and let us intercede for the world in tongue as God commanded.

  55. If someone is speaking in tongues and another has the gift to interpret than how can we be certain the message is of God? Not sure about this. Confusion…??? Doesn’t sound like this could be of God if it’s leaving all the “interpreting”up to humans who are corrupt and deceitful. Just stick to scripture. I think it’s safer.

  56. I was baptized in the HS at lunch time at work and began to speak in tongues. Subsequently both my wife and daughter received the same at different times n places. They both spoke in tongues. Millions of Christians around the world can testify to the experience. It’s a prayer language.

  57. I remember the first time I speak in tongue, it was not by force but came automatic. I could not even control my self I started to speak sometimes I sing in language that I don't know. I dream I speak in tongue and when i wake up i found myself speaks in tongue. So speak in tongue is real.
I talk to what I experience and not what read.
Bible is paradox so it is not match to common sense of man. We need more GOD to understand bible and not our common sense# by blessed amony

  58. He that speaks in an unknown tongue( to this audience) speaks not unto men (in any meaningful way)but unto God( since only God would be able to understand what was being said) for no man understands him (in this audience) howbeit in the spirit he(the speaker)speaks Mysteries( that which could not be understood due to the language barrier)/(to his alien friends) this is how our 1st Corinthians Chapter 14 verse 2 would be explained

  59. I noticed there are 1.6k thumbs down on this video. Those must be people who don't read their Bibles or don't agree with the truth of this video. This is an excellent and common sense teaching on the gift of speaking in tongues. Get wisdom get understanding Proverbs 4:5

  60. When ppl said if I speak in a heavenly tongue it was not literally it was hyperbolic or hyperbole meaning a e exagerration like if you have enough faith you can move that mountain. Tongues of angels are not real angel language it meant back then the speech of the most eloquent individuals. The gift is always meant to edify others NOT the person speaking. How can edification come with no Interpretation??? With interpretation comes understanding and understanding brings edification to the CHURCH. Tongues always meant another language of man. The purpose to preach the gospel to the areas of a different language.

  61. At my church, It creeps me out everytime a random person mumbles these exact words, "lalalalalalblablabablabububobabababashishishirararoriruro.." etc.

  62. When I was young I went to a private school and church where they spoke in tongues and to me it felt like a satanic cult ritual. Very weird if you ask me!

  63. Also when praying in prayer closet. Being raised in Pentecost I started speaking in tongues when I am in prayer. So is this coming for satan

  64. I subscribed to your channel because of this video. Then I watched you preach anti- feminism as if it were a biblical edict. In this way of life, women are resigned to subservience. How backward.

  65. Yes! This needs to be said and spread! I don't understand HOW all these churches continue to do this when there is such clear instruction against it right in Scripture! You'd think at LEAST one of them would want to go through thier bible and see what it says about it right?! I mean what IS their interpretation of 1Corinthians 14 if not "don't speak in toungs without yourself or another interpreting it"?! I get how some can be temporarily mislead by false doctrine but what I DONT get is how they can continue in it without actually reading what the bible says on the topic and correcting their understanding! Please, someone tell me how/why this happens!
God bless, keep getting THE TRUTH out there! ❤ peace and love in Yeshuah!

  66. Jesus obviously said threw eye only way to the FATHER be born again threw eyes seeing truth the first time is the only way threw eyes . I shown told seen much I don't study hard guess bad lie . I enlighten I shown told without doubt must see eyes just true beauty path be known . I shown much like people .
All injust except guess as normal everyone dose this . And guess is usually wrong became lie you defend as truth injust dishonest hides the truth is lie nothingness . maybe you all did in start or always to try help but truthisonly hurt truth was a lie in truth you convince others to believe only lie not path to the FATHER

  67. @UNLEARN the lies, Greetings from Hungary.
I'm sorry for your disappointment in Pentecostal churches, but I think it is not fair you take some scriptures out of context and you use only those that support your viewpoint.

In my opinion there are 3 different "types" of speaking in tongues.
    1. Speaking in a language of a nation on Earth – it is a message from God through the speaker to the listener. Usually there is no need for interpretation, since God sends the message in the language of the listener, just as in Acts 2.
    2. Speaking in a "language of angels" (1 Cor 13:1) – it is a message from God through the speaker to the listener, and for this to be efficient there has to be an interpretation, just like we read in 1 Cor 14 as you quoted.
    3. This is what you deliberately avoided from 1 Cor 14, because you disagree with it. It is "praying in tongues/ other languages" – it is a prayer from the speaker to God in a "language of angels." It is not spoken to people, so there is no need for interpretation, since God understand it very well.

Here are some scriptures (what you omitted) about the 3rd one:
1 Cor 14:2 – "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries." – So, it IS a spiritual language after all.
1 Cor 14:4 – "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…" – So, it is not a selfish thing to edify myself, after all.
1 Cor 14:14-15 – "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding." – So Paul's conclusion is not, to stop praying with the spirit.
Rom 8:26-27 – "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God." – So, the Holy Spirit is wiling to pray through us "with groanings which cannot be uttered"

It is strange though, that many Christians, who talk against speaking in tongues at church, will not prophecy either, even though Paul writes this in the same chapter in 1 Cor 14:31 – " For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged."
