Staten Island Ferry Security Breach

INTO A SECURE UNAUTHORIZED AREA THEN TOOK OFF. AS WE HAVE BEEN TOLD, THAT BOAT HE DOCKED MAY HAVE ALSO BEEN STOLEN. EVERY DAY ABOUT 65,000 PEOPLE COME THROUGH THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY TERMINAL. LAST NIGHT AROUND 9:30, SOMEONE DECIDED TO DOCK A SMALL RECREATIONAL BOAT OF THEIR OWN THERE RIGHT BETWEEN FERRY SLIPS 3 AND 4 ON THE STATEN ISLAND SIDE. POLICE SOURCES SAY THE MAN THEN WALKED UP THE GANGWAY ALSO AN UNAUTHORIZED AREA AND INTO THE TERMINAL WHERE HE FLED. WE’RE TOLD A SECURITY OFFICER IMMEDIATELY SOUNDED THE ALARM CHASING THE MAN. THE NYPD AND COAST GUARD ALSO RESPONDED. A DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SPOKESMAN SAYS, THERE WERE NO IMPACTS TO FERRY SERVICE AND NO INJURIES. THE BOAT LEFT BEHIND WAS SEARCHED. IT’S REGISTERED TO KEN’S SERVICE IN NEW JERSEY. WORKERS THERE SAY IT WAS STOLEN. RIGHT NOW, THE SPOT WITH IN THE NYPD’S POSSESSION AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. THE COAST GUARD SAYS MARITIME BREACHES LIKE THIS DO HAPPEN IN THE NEW YORK AREA FROM TIME TO TIME. A BIG QUESTION, SHOULD THE PUBLIC BE CONCERNED? NO, I DON’T THINK THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE CONCERNED AT ALL. THERE’S APPROXIMATELY 250 SENSITIVE SPOTS ALONG THE NEW YORK HARBOR AND I THINK PROTOCOLS WERE IMMEDIATELY IMPLEMENTED AND THAT IF THEY WEREN’T, THEN THE PUBLIC MIGHT BE CONCERNED. BUT CLEARLY, ALL OF THE PROTOCOLS WERE FOLLOWED. THERE WAS AN IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION. THERE WAS AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. Reporter: THIS IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS A CASE OF CRIMINAL TRESPASS. WE UNDERSTAND THIS MAN WAS CAUGHT ON SECURITY CAMERAS SO THEY HAVE NOT YET RELEASED THOSE IMAGES. HE IS BELIEVED TO BE IN HIS 50s. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT HE WAS WEARING A GREEN SHIRT, GRAY PANTS AND WHITE SNEAKERS.
