St. Kateri Tekakwitha Shrine Groundbreaking


(soft music) – We’re here today to break ground on the
National Saint Kateri Rosary Walk and Shrine. And this Rosary Walk
and Shrine will become a national spiritual center for Catholic Native Americans
throughout North America. – This project, which is so
very important to the Southwest is also very important for the
Catholic Church nationally. – Saint Kateri, she would
go through the woods to pray her rosary, marking
crosses on the trees. She was a woman of great faith. – This shrine, dedicated
to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, to have it located in the diocese which has the highest percentage of Native American Catholics
in the United States is also meaningful for us. – [Narrator 1] We’re very excited to have everyone here with us today, especially the Knights of Columbus and the Southwest Indian Foundation for partnering with us
in the Diocese of Gallup to get this all done. – [Narrator 2] Saint Kateri,
hundreds of years later, she has become a symbol of
hope and unity and renewal. – [Narrator 3] The Saint
Kateri Shrine is very important to the Knights of Columbus
because it is the symbol of the tapestry of
Catholicism of North America.
