SaintsGamePlan – Week 07

TONIGHT ON GAME PLAN….> THE SAINTS ARE BACK ABOVE 500 AFTER A HISTORICALLY WILD AND WHACKY WIN OVER THE LIONS:>UP NEXT IS A GREEN BAY TEAM FORCED TO ADJUST TO LIFE WITHOUT AARON RODGERS:>> WE’RE BREAKING DOWN A MATCHUP BETWEEN TWO OF THE FOUR LONGEST TENURED COACHES. PLUS HOW DID CAM JORDAN PUT IN SUCH A DOMINANT PERFORMANCE AGAINST DETROIT? THE FILM DOESN’T LIE…AND IT’S ALL ON GAME PLAN, STARTING…..RIGHT NOW! Announcer:”From FOX 8 Sports, this is Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Fordaler,e k any job.” MUSIC PLAYS LL WHAT DO YOU KNOW.. THE SAINTS ARE WINNERS OF THREE IN A ROW.. AND ARE NOW EFE NED FOR TN KINCAID.. IM SEAN FAZEN.D IF TH FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW…AND THEY’LL R n certain ways. viously, wgot som at have allowed us to win. When success, I think a light bulb goes on. You realize when we do this, it gives us a great chance to win.” Sean Payton:”I think our goal as a team isn’t just to have a winning season. Our goal as a team is much higher than that. Certainly for guys like Cam, or Mark , or a handful of players, maybe Kenny , that have been here a little longer, really for all of these guys . You said goals, and that’s why we’re playing and working, and practicing, improving to receive an opportunity to play in the postseason. But we have a lot of work ahead of us.” SEAN THIS PACKERS TEAM HAS BEEN THE TALK OF THE N-F-L THIS WEEK.. NOT BECAUSE OF WHO’LL BE PLAYING BUT BECAUSE OF WHO WON’T BE.. TRUE BUT GREEN BAY IS MORE THAN JUST NUMBER 12.. AARON RODGERS…AND THE SAINTS MUST BE READY FOR ANYTHING. THINK GREEN BAY PACKERS… THINK ONE MAN.. AARON RODGERS.. ARGUABLY THE BEST PLAYER IN FOOTBALL.. WELL NOW HE’S OUT.. HIS BACKUP BRETT HUNDLEY IS IN.. WHO’S THROWN ALL OF 44 PASSES IN HIS CAREER.. STILL THE SAINTS DEFENSE KNOWS NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO TAKE A PLAYER LIGHTLY. HUNDLEY STILL HAS A VAST ARRAY OF WEAPONS AROUND HIM.. INCLUDING…RANDALL COBB.. DEVANTE ADAMS AND JORDY NELSON..WHO’VE COMBINED FOR 12 TOUCHDOWNS THIS SEASON. THEY’VE ALSO GOT TIGHT END MARTELLUS BENNETT WHO’S PITCHED IN WITH 22 CATCHES OF HIS OWN. DEFENSIVELY… THE PACKERS ARE OPPORTUNISITC.. THEY’RE TIED FOR FOURTH IN THE LEAGUE WITH 11 TAKEAWAYS.. BLAKE MARTINEZ LEADS THE TEAM WITH 48 TACKLES CLAY MATTHEWS AND NICK PERRY BOTH LEAD THE TEAM WITH 2.5 SACKS.. AND HA HA CLINTON DIX.. AND GROWN INTO ONE OF THE BEST SAFETIES IN FOOTBALL. BOTTOM LINE THIS TEAM HAS EVERYTHING BUT THEIR BEST PLAYER.. AND HE’S A HUGE PART OF THEIR SUCCESS BUT THE SAINTS WOULD BE FOOLISH TO TAKE THE PACKERS LIGHTLY. THIS TEAM HAS BEEN BURNED MANY TIMES BEFORE JUST BECAUSE THEY TOOK A TEAM LIGHTLY… THERE’S NO CHANCE THEY GO DOWN THAT ROAD AGAIN….BUT, IT’S ONLY HUMAN NATURE TO ‘THINK’ THEY’RE GETTING THE PACKERS AT THE PERFECT TIME… NO AARON RODGERS…MEANS THEIR CHANCES OF WINNING ON SUNDAY WENT UP…IT’S WHY THE BETTING LINE FLIPPED ABOUT 10-POINTS IN A DAY. PACKERS HEAD COACH MIKE MCCARTHY UNDERSTANDS FULLY THE CHALLENGE THAT’S NOW FACING HIS TEAM…GOING AGAINST A SURGING SAINTS TEAM WITHOUT HIS TEAMS LEADER… BUT, AS COACHES DO, THEY MOVE ON..AND GET THEIR TEAM TO MOVE ON AND RALLY AROUND THE NEXT MAN UP..WHICH IS HUNDLEY “I’VE GOT THREE YEARS INVESTED IN BRETT HUNDLEY. TWO YEARS INVESTED IN JOE CALLLAHAN. THE QUARTERABCK ROOM IS EXACTLY WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE. WE’RE FORTUNATE TO HAVE A GREAT QUARTERBACK IN AARON RODGERS. WE’RE COMMITTED TO TO THE PATH THAT WE’RE ON. WE NEED TO PLAY BETTER AS A FOOTBALL TEAM AND BRETT HUNDLEY WILL BE STARTING THIS WEEK. ‘ OF COURSE, THE QUESTION WAS ASKED TO MCCARTHY IF HE PLANNED ON BRINGING COLIN KAEPERNICK IN FOR A TRIAL…HE DIDN’T SAY NO…BUT, HE WAS QUICK TO SAY…THE NEXT MAN UP..IS CURRENTLY IN THEIR ROOM. COULD USING HUNDLEY BE AN ADVANTAGE FOR THE PACKERS ? YES, BECAUSE THERE’S NOT A LOT OF FILM ON HIM. HE’S ONLY THROWN 44-PASSES, COMPLETING 21-OF THEM…SO MOST OF HIS FILM IS FROM THE PRESEASON… THE SAINTS ARE HOPING THEY CAN GET A GOOD FEEL FOR HIS TENDENCIES FROM THAT HOW DID THE SAINTS SET UP CAM JORDAN FOR SUCCESS? YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS THE FILM STUDY BEHIND THE N-F-C’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK. Announcer:”You’re watching Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. Nissan Titan, take on any job.” MUSIC PLAYS THERE ARE SOME N-F-L STADIUMS THAT PLAYERS JUST LOVE TO PLAY IN MORE THAN OTHERS… IT’S ALL ABOUT THE HISTORY FOR THESE GUYS…AND THIS WEEKENDS TRIP TO LAMBEAU FIELD IS ‘NOT’ JUST ABOUT THE GAME… THE SAINTS WILL BE STEPPING FOOT IN A STADIUM WHERE IT FEELS LIKE THE GAME BEGAN…WHERE SOME OF THE EARLY GREATS LACED THEM UP…WHERE PLAYERS PLAYED EVEN WHEN THE TEMPS DIPPED WELL BELOW FREEZING. LAMBEAU FIELD HOLDS SO MUCH HISTORY…AND IT’S NOT LOST ON DREW BREES, WHO’S PLAYED HERE MANY TIMES BEFORE…AND ALWAYS CHERISHES THE NEXT TIME “I DO APPREACIATE THAT VERY MUCH…SO MUCH TRADITION..GOES BACK TO START OF GAME TODAY…GREAT PLAYERS COACHES EVER PLAYED GAME…VINCE LOMBARDI, FORREST GREGG, HISTORY OF PLACE..GREAT PLACE TOPLAY FOOTBALL.NEVER KNOW HOW MANY TIMES GET TO PLAY THERE..APPREACIA TE IT EVERY SINGLE TIME” CAM JORDAN’S PLAYED AT LAMBEAU TWICE….AND LOST TWICE…BUT, HE’S BEEN PLAYING ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL LATELY…IN FACT, JORDAN HAS BEEN THE SAINTS BEST AND PERHAPS THE N-F-L’S MOST UNDERRATED DEFENDER OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS… FOR YEARS YOU COULD SAY…HE WAS THE BEST PLAYER ON A BAD DEFENSE.. NOW HE’S ON AN IMPROVING DEFENSE.. AND THE FILM PROVES.. JORDAN IS BETTER THAN EVER.. THE FIRST THING THAT’S BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR WITH CAM IS THAT DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR DENNIS ALLEN DOESN’T WANT TO LIMIT TO JUST ONE SPOT ON THE FIELD. IN THE FIRST TWO QUARTERS OF SUNDAY’S GAME AGAINST DETROIT…HE LINED UP IN FIVE DIFFERENT SPOTS. HE OPENED UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LINE.. BETWEEN THE GUARD AND TACKLE.. WITH ALEX OKAFOR NEXT TO HIM..NOT OPPOSITE OF HIM. HE ALSO LINED UP IN HIS FAMILIAR SPOT… ON THE LEFT SIDE EDGE.. HE ALSO PLAYED THE RIGHT SIDE EDGE.. THEN HE STOOD UP AND PLAYED OUTSIDE LINEBACKER.. FIRST ON THE LEFT SIDE AND THEN ON THE RIGHT SIDE. AND FINALLY HE PLAYED NOSE TACKLE OVER THE CENTER… FROM A PLAYMAKING STANDPOINT.. JORDAN HAS ELEVATED HIS GAME IN 2017…AND IT WAS ON FULL DISPLAY SUNDAY.. EARLY ON IN THE FIRST QUARTER.. JORDAN FOUGHT OFF THE BLOCK OF DARREN FELLS TO ASSIST ON THE TACKLE.. LATER IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.. JORDAN GETS TRHOUGH THREE DIFFERENT BLOCKERS TO COMPELTELY DISRUPT THE AMIR ABDULLAH RUN.. HE MAKES THE TACKLE AFTER REELING ABDULLAH BACK BY THE STRING OF HIS JERSEY. BOTH OF HIS SACKS CAME WHILE PLAYING THE LEFT SIDE EDGE.. AND WERE SHEER POWER.. STAFFORD BARELY HAD A CHANCE TO SET HIS FEET BEFORE #77 WAS BACK INTO HIM. HIS SECOND SACK WAS EVEN QUICKER.. MORE POWERFUL AND EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE.. FROM THE LEFTSIDE EDGE JORDANPOUSHED #72 STARIGHT BACK INTO STAFFORD WHO DIDN’T STAND A CHACNE.. JORDAN REGISTERED A SACK BY NOT EVEN TOUCHING THE QUARTERBACK. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE DAY IN AND OF ITSELF.. BUT JORDAN HAD MORE MAGIC ON SUNDAY.. WITH THE SAINTS UP ONLY SEVEN AND DETROIT WITH THE BALL.. HE SLAMMED SHUT ANY HOPES OF THE BIGGEST COMEBACK IN N-F-L HISTORY WITH A REMARKABLE PICK SIX.. PLAYING THE RIGHT SIDE..BETWEEN THE GUARD AND TACKLE.. JORDAN RAN A STUNT AND CURLED BEHIND DAVID ONYEMATA.. ADN AS TEHY DID ALL GAME HE PERFECTLY TIMED STAFFORD’S THROW GOT HIS HANDS AND TIPPED THE PASS.. BUT ALSO HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO FIND THE BALL AND SCORE THE TOUCHDOWN. JORDAN IS FIRST ON THE TEAM IN SACKS.. SECOND IN PASSES DEFENSED.. AND THIRD IN TOTAL TACKLES.. HE’S HAVING A CAREER YEAR RIGHT BEFORE OUR VERY EYES. NO DOUBT HAVING A PRO BOWL SEASON…HOPEFULLY HIS FIRST PICK SIX GETS HIM EVEN MORE RECOGNITION STILL TO COME …. CAN BRETT HUNDLEY’S LACK OF EXPERIENCE ACTUALLY WORK IN THE PACKERS FAVOR WHEN GAME-PLANNING? HERBIE TEOPE JOINS US IN STUDIO TO DISCUSS THAT AND MORE WHEN GAME PLAN ROLLS ON. Announcer:”You’re watching Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. BUT CAN THE UNKOWN OF HUNDLEY ACTUALLY BE A CHALLENGE FOR THIS SAINTS TEAM? OFFENSIVELY.. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THIS OFFENSIVE LINE? DESPITE CHALLENGES THEY’VE REMAINED STEADY? DID SUNDAY’S PERFORMANCE BY INGRAM, KAMARA AND PETERSON VALIDATE THE TRADE? VIEWER QUESTION MARK POCHATOULA…WHEN CB DELVIN BREAUX RETURNS FROM INJURY IN THE COMING WEEKS, WILL HE BE THE #1 OR #2 AND WHICH CB WILL HAVE REDUCED ROLE? VIEWER QUESTION Ralph in LOCKPORT— WHY HAVEN’T THE DEFENSIVE LINEMAN AND LINEBACKERS BEEN KNOCKING DOWN PASSES IN THE PREVIOUS GAMES? THEY MUST HAVE HAD 10 TO 12 AGAINST DETROIT. HERBIE TEOPE OF NOLA.COM AND THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. WHEN WE COME BACK, HOW DID THE SAINTS SCORE 52 POINTS AND YET LEAVE FANTASY OWNERS UNDERWHELMED? CHRIS HAGAN TAKES A LOOK AT THE ODD OUTCOMES WE SAW AND WHAT IT MEANS GOING FORWARD. Announcer:”You’re watching Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. Nissan Titan, take on any job.” MUSIC PLAYS HOW ABOUT A KEY TO THE GAME? WE CALL THIS ONE THE INGRAM INDICATOR THE LAST SAINTS-PACKERS GAME SAW THE SEVENTH-YEAR BACK PUT UP A CAREER HIGH 172 YARDS ON 24 CARRIES, INCLUDING A TOUCHDOWN. IN FACT, HIS SIX BEST RUSHING GAMES HAVE ALL COME IN WINNING EFFORTS. ON THE FLIPSIDE, WHEN HE GETS TEN-PLUS CARRIES BUT IS HELD UNDER 45 YARDS….THE SAINTS ARE OH-AND-SEVEN. THE INGRAM INDICATOR….BIG GAME….WIN….BAD GAME….LOSS. THE SAINTS 52-38 WIN OVER DETROIT ..CERTAINLY HELPED THEM IN THE N-F-C SOUTH STANDINGS.. BUT IT PROBABLY DIDN’T CONTRIBUTE MUCH TO YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL ROSTER… SEEMS TO CRAZY TO SAY.. BUT IT;S TRUE.. ESPECIALLY FROM AN OFFENSIVE STANDPOINT.. CHRIS HAGA EXPLAINS IN THIS WEEK’S EXTRA POINT. Despite topping 50 points last week against the Lions, the Saints offense did not have one of their better days. Mark Ingram was the lone bright spot when it came to real fantasy production. That said, look for them to bounce back against the Packers this week, even on the road. Green Bay’s given up at least 20 points in all but two games against the struggling offense of the Seahawks and hapless Bears. Once again, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara should be in your starting lineups. The Packers have allowed running backs to find the endzone either on the ground or through the air, in their last five straight games. With both Kamara and Ingram proving to be effecting on pass and run downs, they’re bound to be productive. At receiver, I’d call the low output from Willie Snead and Michael Thomas a rarity. The lack of targets likely stemmed from the lock down coverage of Lions corner Darius Slay. The Packers aren’t as threatening in their secondary, and Thomas should be back on his high reception game. However, as good as Ted Ginn Jr was, I’m not sure I’d bank on a duplicate performance, and would avoid starting him even if you have a receiver on bye. I’d prefer a pickup like Cardinals wide out John Brown with their offense on the mend. Speaking of which, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention former Saint Adrian Peterson and his breakout game in Arizona of 134 yards and two touchdowns. Definitely start him going forward. As for the Packers, you probably don’t have better options than Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams, the best touchdown catching duo in the league, but just know that they now have a ceiling without Rodgers putting the ball on the money. The same goes for running backs Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones. Without Rodgers, the fantasy football oil well that is the Green Bay Packers, could quickly dry up. OUR COVERAGE CERTAINLY DOESN’T STOP HERE, LOTS MORE ON FOX 8 NEWS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AND THEN SUNDAY, IT’S THE GAMEDAY ROUTINE….FOX 8 LIVE TAILGATE BEGINS A DAY FULL OF FOOTBALL ON OUR AIR, INCLUDING THE SAINTS KICKING OFF AT NOON…OUR REPORTS BEGIN ON FOX 8 NEWS AT NINE LEADING UP TO THE FINAL PLAY AT TEN-THIRTY.
