Announcer:”From FOX 8 Sports, this is Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. IT’S A GOOD OLD FASHIONED COLLEGE CRAM SESSION FOR THE SAINTS…WITH THE FIRST EXAM COMING IN 24-HOURS… REST, REST, REST…AND THEN PLAY…IS THE TEAMS PLAN FOR THE SHORT WEEK BUILDUP TO THE FALCONS GAME… Drew Brees:”I guess it’s six days of preparation into three days so today was like a Wednesday-Thursda y and tomorrow is like a Friday-Saturday and then you go play on Sunday which is Thursday so it’s all condensed, the game plan, the install, what you’re trying to do to take care of your body, just a great sense of urgency and great time managament.” THESE NEXT THREE WEEKS WILL HAVE THE SAINTS FACING THEIR ARCH RIVALS TWICE… THESE NEXT THREE WEEKS WILL HAVE THE SAINTS FACING THESE NEXT THREE WEEKS WILL HAVE THE SAINTS FACING THEIR ARCH RIVALS TWICE… AND WHILE THERE’S NO LOVE LOST BETWEEN THESE TWO FRANCHISES.. THE SAINTS HAVE ALWAYS RESPECTED THE FALCONS.. THEY KNOW JUST HOW TALENTED THEY ARE. FOR THE SAINTS.. IT’S FALCONS WEEK.. WHICH MEANS.. THINGS GET SPICED UP A BIT.. NOT ONLY ARE THEY THE SAINTS MOST HATED RIVAL.. THEY ALSO MEET WITH A LOT ON THE LINE. AT SEVEN AND FIVE…. ATLANTA IS IN DESPERATION MODE.. THE SAINTS KNOW THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS. LOOK AT THEIR ROSTER… IT’S ADED…. OFFENSE.. MATT RYAN RU S CONDERED ONE OF THE BEST WIDE RN R AND JOHN CURTIS PATRIOT DUKERIL RLIER IN THE YEAR BEFORE ARING HIS MENISCUS. THE SECONDS E TEAM WITH 15 P-B-U’S.. A UNITE N AYBORN WITH EIT.. AND TAKKKLEY . R THE SAINTS.. IT’S FALCONS EK. NOT ONLY ARE THEY THEAINTSST HAO . S IN DESPERATION MODE.. THE SAINTS KNOW THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS. LOOK AT THEIR ROSTER… IT’S LOADED…. ON OFFENSE.. MATT RYAN RUNS THE SHOW… LOOK AT THEIR ROSTER… IT’S LOADED…. ON OFFENSE.. MATT RYAN RUNS THE SHOW… JULIO JONES IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE BEST WIDE RECEIVERS IN THE BUSINESS. AND LIKE THE SAINTS. .. THEY HAVE A POTENT ONE-TWO PUNCH IN THE BACKFIELD.. WITH DEVONTA FREEMAN AND TEVIN COLEMAN.. ON DEFENSE.. LOUISIANA PRODUCTS ARE ALL OVER THE FIELD.. L-S-U AND JESUIT’S DEION JONES LEADS THE TEAM IN TACKLES.. WHILE HIS FELLOW TIGER AND JOHN CURTIS PATRIOT DUKE RILEY STARTED AT WEAKSIDE EARLIER IN THE YEAR BEFORE TEARING HIS MENISCUS. IN THE SECONDARY S-L-U’S ROBERT ALFORD.. LEADS THE TEAM WITH 15 P-B-U’S.. AS A UNIT THEY’RE TENTH IN THE N-F-L IN SACKS.. LED BY ADRIAN CLAYBORN WITH EIGHT.. AND TAKK MCKINLEY WITH FIVE.. THE FALCONS DEFENSE WILL ALSO GET A BIG BOOST WITH THE RETURN OF CORNERBACK DESMOND TRUFANT… HE LEADS THE TEAM WITH TWO INTERCEPTIONS. BUT, WE’RE GONNA FIND OUT THURSDAY NIGHT HOW WELL HE CAN TACKLE… BECAUSE THE SAINTS WILL ‘NO DOUBT’ THROW A HEAVY DOSE OF THE RUN GAME AT THE FALCONS DEFENSE…. THE SAINTS PLAN FOR MARK INGRAM AND ALVIN KAMARA IS TO GET THEM TO THE SECOND LEVEL OF THE FALCONS DEFENSE ATLANTA’S A MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DEFENSE WHEN IT COMES TO STOPPING THE RUN…RANKED 18TH, GIVING UP 113-YARDS PER GAME.. INGRAM’S A RUNNING BACK THEY’VE FACED MANY TIMES BEFORE…ATLANTA COACH DAN QUINN BELIEVES THAT KAMARA, WHO’S AN ATLANTA NATIVE, COULD BE TOUGHER TO HANDLE…BECAUSE HE’S SO ELUSIVE Dan Quinn:”The thing I’d probably say that has really jumped out to me, not just from his Tennessee days or the evaluation coming up through the ranks is his balance. I don’t know how many missed tackles you can have on a player but I bet he’d have one of the highest averages out there. It’s because of his balance that he can stay with the contact, stay on his feeet to extend plays. We’ve been impressed by him, something that has jumped out to us is his ability to make people miss.” KAMARA’S EXPECTED TO GET A LOT OF ATTENTION FROM THE FALCONS..WHICH COULD OPEN THINGS UP FOR MARK INGRAM.. DUAL THREATS IN THE BACKFIELD IS SOMETHING THE FALCONS ARE ACCUSTOMED TO HAVING…MAYBE NOT DEFENDING IN A LOT OF WAYS, DEVONTA FREEMAN AND TEVIN COLEMAN ARE A LOT LIKE INGRAM AND KAMARA…IN THAT THEY’RE DANGEROUS IN BOTH THE RUN AND THE PASS…SO ‘BOTH’ TEAMS ARE EXPECTING TO HAVE THEIR HANDS FULL STILL TO COME ON GAME PLAN… IT’S BEEN A GOOD YEAR FOR SAINTS FREE AGENT PICKUPS.. UP NEXT.. MY FILM STUDY PINPOINTS ONE FROM SUNDAY WHO HELPED PROPELL THE SAINTS GROUND ATTACK…AGAINST THE PANTHERS. THE PANTHERS. Announcer:”You’re watching Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. Nissan Titan, take on any job.” MUSIC PLAYS PART OF THE REASON FOR THE SAINTS SUCCESS THIS SEASON HAS BEEN HOW WELL THEIR FREE AGENT CLASS HAS BLENDED IN AND CONTRIBUTED. ONE NEWCOMER WHO HAS NOT GOTTEN ENOUGH ATTENTION .. IS GUARD LARRY WARFORD.. THAT CHANGES NOW.. AS WARFORD HAD A MONSTER GAME SUNDAY.. AS I DISCOVERED IN MY FILM BREAKDOWN. SOMETIMES REMAINING ANOYMOUS IS PART OF AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN’S JOB.. BUT ON SUNDAY.. LARRY WARFORD’S WORK WAS WORTHY OF PRAISE… EVERYTHING THE SAINTS WANTED OUT OF WARFORD WHEN THEY SIGNED HIM SHOWED UP ON TWO PLAYS ON THE SAME DRIVE… REMEMBER THAT 72 YARD MARK INGRAM RUN IN THE SECOND QUARTER? IT DOESN’T HAPPEN WITHOUT WARFORD.. WATCHING HIM ON THE SNAP.. HE USES HIS PAD LEVEL AND LEVERAGE TO MOVE #98 FURTHER INSIDE.. CREATING A MASSIVE LANE FOR INGRAM.. BUT AS PANTHERS LINEBACKER LUKE KUECHLY SHOOTS THE GAP TO MEET THE RUNNER.. WARFORD ATHLETICALLY PEALS OFF HIS INITIAL BLOCK AND COMES OVER TO ENGAGE WITH KEUCHLY..PUSHIN G HIM TO THE RIGHT..TAKING HIM OUT OF THE PALY.. INGRAM CUTS RIGHT BEHIND HIM.. AND SCAMPERS FREE FOR 72 YARDS… TWO PLAYS LATER.. WARFORD ASSIGNMENT IS A BIT SIMPLER BUT EXECUTING WITH DOMINANCE.. ON THE SNAP..WITH SOME ASSISTANCE FROM RYAN RAMCZYK.. HE PLOWS 98 AGAIN… STRAIGHT BACK THREE YARDS INTO THE END ZONE.. INGRAM WASN’T TOUCHED EN ROUTE TO HIS SCORE. WARFORD IS ONE-FIFTH.. OF WHAT’S BECOME ONE OF THE MOST DOMINANT O-LINES IN FOOTBALL.. LIKE MOST MOVES THIS OFFSEASON.. HE HAS WORKED OUT EXACLTY AS THE TEAM EXPECTED. chime in/ad lib AS IMPORTANT AS THURSDAY NIGHT’S SAINTS/FALCONS GAME IS….THE PLAYOFF CHASING TEAMS ‘ABOVE’ THEM…HAVE SOME WORK LEFT TO DO AS WELL THE TEAMS THAT THE SAINTS ARE LOOKING UP AT…THE EAGLES, VIKINGS AND RAMS…ARE WITHIN ARMS REACH..AND ALL THREE HAVE CHALLENGES OVER THE FINAL FOUR WEEKS.. THE EAGLES VISIT THE RAMS THIS WEEKEND…AND STILL HAVE THE RAIDERS ON THEIR SCHEDULE…THE VIKINGS VISIT CAROLINA ON SUNDAY…AND MAY HAVE TO FACE AARON RODGERS, IN GREEN BAY, IN A FEW WEEKS… AND THE RAMS HAVE THE TOUGHEST ROAD TO HOE…PHILLY AT HOME THIS WEEKEND…THEN AT SEATTLE AND AT TENNESSEE… SO THERE’S A LOT TO BE DECIDED OVER THE FINAL STRETCH OF THE SEASON Jim Henderson:”I heard this referred to this month as the pre-playoff round robin and it pretty much is because you’re playing so many division foes so every week brings a new challenge, usually matching division foe against division foe which changes things markedly. That victory for the Saints really gave them a two game lead on the Panthers because of the tiebreaker.” AND THE FALCONS CAN MAKE UP PLENTY OF GROUND…AS LONG AS THEY WIN OUT….WIN THEIR REMAINING FOUR GAMES…ALL OF WHICH ARE ‘DIVISION’ GAMES, AND THEY’LL WIN THE N-F-C SOUTH.. chime in STILL TO COME….THE SAINTS’ DEFENSIVE RANKS ARE SLIPPING IN THE ABSENCE OF MARSHON LATTIMORE….HOW EXPOSED WILL THE BLACK AND GOLD BE IF HE’S NOT AT FULL STRENGTH TOMORROW? HERBIE TEOPE OF NOLA-DOT-COM JOINS US TO DISCUSS. Announcer:”You’re watching Gameplan, sponsored by your Southern Quality Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. Nissan Titan, take on any job.” MUSIC PLAYS JOINED NOW BY HERBIE TEOPE, SAINTS BEAT WRITER FOR THE TIMES-PICAYUNE AND NOLA.COM .THE QUICK TURNAROUND.. HOW MUCH OF AN ISSUE DO YOU THINK IT WILL BE FOR THE SAINTS IN ATLANTA? MARSHON LATTIMORE DIDN’T GO LAST WEEK.. IF HE CAN’T GO THIS WEEK HOW BIG OF A LOSS WOULD THAT BE? WHAT ABOUT THIS FALCONS TEAM IS CONCERNING FOR THE SAINTS? ARE THEY BETTER THAN THEIR RECORD? A WIN THURSDAY WOULD REALLY SET THE SAINTS UP FOR A DIVISION TITLE RIGHT? A VIEWER QUESTION FROM THE FINAL PLAY APP’S FINAL WORD FEATURE…. “We are all giving the guys in the skill positions like the QB and RB all the attention but I think the offensive line is where the most improvements are this year. Do you feel the same?” – Richard Lemon, Terrytown HERBIE TEOPE OF NOLA.COM AND THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. SAINTS BEAT WRITER FOR THE TIMES-PICAYUNE AND NOLA.COM .THE QUICK TURNAROUND.. STILL TO COME….THE SAINTS’ WIN OVER CAROLINA HAD A LOT OF STATISTICAL SIMILARITIES TO THEIR LOSS TO THE RAMS….CHRIS HAGAN GOES BEYOND THE BOX SCORE TO SHOW YOU THE IMMEASURABLE CHANGES THE TEAM MADE TO TURN THEIR TIDE. “We are all giving the guys in the skill positions like the QB and RB all the Ford Dealer, built tough. And the Nissan Titan with America’s best bumper-to-bumper limited truck warranty. Nissan Titan, take on any job.” MUSIC PLAYS TIME FOR KEYS TO THE GAME….AND THIS WEEK IS ALL ABOUT THE SHORT PREPARATION FOR A ROAD TRIP…..IT’S NOTHING NEW TO THE SAINTS. THIS WILL BE THE FIFTH TIME IN THE LAST SIX YEARS THAT THEY’VE HAD TO GO ON THE ROAD FOR A MIDSEASON THURSDAY NIGHT GAME. THAT SEEMS DISPROPORTIONAT E BUT THEY’RE NOT ALONE. FOUR OTHER TEAMS SHARE THEIR PLIGHT AND THE CURIOUS TREND IS…..GOOD FRANCHISES TEND TO FIND A WAY TO OVERCOME THE ADVERSITY AND GET THE JOB DONE. THE SEAHAWKS HAVE THE BEST RECORD UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES…PERHAPS IT’S NO COINCIDENCE THAT THEY’VE ALSO MADE THE PLAYOFFS EACH OF THE LAST FIVE YEARS. INCONSISTENT CLUBS LIKE CHICAGO AND WASHINGTON ARE 1-4, THE GIANTS NOT MUCH BETTER AT 2-3. IF THE SAINTS CAN GET A WIN IN ATLANTA IT WOULD PUT THEM AT 3-2. A BOUNCE BACK WIN FOR THE SAINTS OVER CAROLINA LAST WEEK.. SAW SOME MARKED IMPROVEMENTS FROM THEIR LOSS IN LOS ANGELES.. AND CHRIS HAGAN SAYS IT WASN’T JUST WHAT THEY DID.. IT WAS WHEN THEY DID IT. HE EXPLAINS IN THIS WEEK’S BEYOND THE BOX SCORE. Beyond the box score is truly where you have to go this week for when you look back on how the Saints completed the season sweep of the Panthers… because within the box score, there aren’t a whole lot of changes from the week before against the Rams. In Los Angeles, they were three of 13 on third down. Against Carolina, six of 15. Yes, it’s a slightly better percentage, but it’s when they converted those third downs that made the biggest difference. The three that made the biggest difference were all big plays through air on touchdown drives, starting on the first of the game, when Brees connected with Michael Thomas for 26 yards on 3rd and short… en route to a Alvin Kamara touchdown to go up 7-0. The next was a touchdown itself to Thomas on 3rd and 8 in the 2nd quarter, when he was bracketed by the linebacker and safety but still worked his way open for six. And then in the third quarter on their final touchdown drive of the day to make it 28-14, Brees found old Mr. Reliable Willie Snead for a 26 yard pickup… leading to another Kamara touchdown. Three third downs, three big completions. Proving that no matter how much of a running team the Saints have become, Brees is always a difference maker. On the other side of the ball, you can’t say enough about the job the Saints did on the Panthers top playmakers. Knowing that Devin Funchess and Christian McCaffrey would be Cam’s main targets, they were outstanding against both. Outside of a busted coverage that allowed McCaffrey into the endzone, he was a non-factor. His nine catches for more than 100 yards in week three became five catches for 33 yards, with 21 of those yards coming on one play. For Funchess, outside of a perfect pass and catch that Ken Crawley still played to near perfection, he was held pretty quiet with just four receptions. The most notable play from Crawley, who drew the assignment for most of the day, came when he stopped Funchess short of a first down on a critical 4th and six in the fourth quarter. Simply put, they made the clutch plays, something they did often during their 8-game win streak. If they keep it up, they could have another win streak going by the end of Thursday night. Reporting for Game Plan, I’m Chris Hagan. WE’LL BE RIGHT BACK AT IT TOMORROW AT SIX P-M AS SEAN WILL BE LIVE IN ATLANTA FOR AN HOUR LONG PRIME TIME EDITION OF TAILGATE. AND THEN A SPECIAL FRIDAY INSTALLMENT OF JIM HENDERSON’S BLACK AND GOLD REVIEW SHOW, WHICH WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE SEASON FINALE OF FOX-8-FOOTBALL FRIDAY. IT MAY NOT BE A SAINTS SUNDAY, BUT WE’LL STILL WRAP THE WEEKEND UP SUNDAY NIGHT ON THE FINAL PLAY AT TEN-THIRTY. UNTIL NEXT TIME, THANKS FOR WATCHING GAMEPLAN AND THANKS TO EVERYONE AT FOX 8 FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS. OUR NEXT NEWSCAST IS AT FOUR-THIRTY A-M, GOOD NIGHT.
