(RE)MARKS: Cam Newton injured in first preseason start

All right, everyone,
we’re here in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The Panthers just lost their third
preseason game to New England Patriots, ten to three. And there’s only one story that
we need to talk about right now. And it’s quarterback Cam Newton,
playing in his first game action since last December when he was
shut down because his shoulder soreness. Cam comes out goes 446 430 yards. That’s all well and good,
the shoulder looks okay. But then obviously, on a third down play,
the pocket collapses, Cam tries to scramble, get sacked, grabbed in the left
lower leg, goes out of the game. The Panthers say he will not
return with a foot injury. After the game, Ron Rivera confirmed to
the media that Cam is in a walking boot.>>He’s in a walking boot. That’s all I can tell you.>>Ron said he was not sure if Cam
is still on track to play in week one of the season. That’s something that he’s gonna continue to have a dialogue
with the trainers about. What we do know, is that obviously,
by putting him in the walking boot, the team was showing over caution, supreme
caution, which is the same thing they’ve done with him throughout the past
six months during his rehab process. I would expect that we’ll learn more
about Cam’s foot in the coming days. As the team goes through more testing, we’ll be able to have more
access to coach Ron Rivera. Until then, basically, it’s what can the
Panthers offense do without Cam Newton? And we have to look at
the backup quarterbacks, they’ve been unimpressive again. For the Carolina Panthers, this was
the big worry about the preseason. And unfortunately, it comes true and
Foxboro can, didn’t exit the game or loses, but injury will find out
more in the coming days and weeks. But that’s what we know so far. Thanks so much, guys. We’ll have more information for
you coming shortly.
