Joining Queen Mary – hear from our students

Hey, you made it! You’re here; nice work – I’m proud of you. There’s lots to do and lots of time to do it in, so
chill out, take a moment and breaaathe. Aaaand let’s go. But where are we going? Well there’s a few places
you probably need to know about right away. Like this one – the Octagon for enrolment.
No prizes for why it’s called that. Or this one – The Student Enquiry Centre, where
you – a student – can enquire about things. Anything you need. Or maybe you could
swing by your school front desk and a friendly member of the team like
Joe will point you in the right direction. Hi Joe! But as you’ll notice there are
a few other people around to talk to – other students, yeah, that’s right. You
can talk to them, they’re people too – and they probably already know all about
what it’s like at Queen Mary. What’s the best thing about it here? Well I love a lot of things about Queen Mary but the best thing about it is the people, and the
friendly atmosphere, and the campus just feels like home and a really nice community. How about you guys, what’s your recommendation? The best thing for me is Qmotion
gym. They’ve got lots of classes and really state-of-the-art
facilities so it helps you to live a healthy lifestyle while you’re doing your course. Chebet, what’s your recommendation? I love that the library is 24 hours
every day of the week and so you can read at anytime you feel like. Right here is your activities guru. Anna, what’s good to do around here? Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from studying and Queen Mary has a lot to offer. For
example you can do a lot of social activities with the Students’ Union. If you
would like to socialise with your friends there are a lot of cafés on campus where
you can drink coffee and meet people. See, keep listening to Anna and you’ll
never be stuck for something to do. Unless you’re really into doing nothing then
just ignore all this and chill out, you do you. Perhaps the thing that gets you
out of bed in the morning is the opportunity to talk to some new people.
I get that but where can you get some of that chat? Let’s ask Sabina. She’ll know. The campuses are really friendly and there are
always societies in Library Square promoting their society so that’s a great way to
meet new people with the same interests. See, you’re meeting new people already. Anyway, there is a way that you can find out what’s going on and where. Yeah, it’s an app. Head to your nearest
app store and search for QMUL. There’s campus maps on there, info about the local area, and once you’re
fully enrolled you can find your course timetable and loads of other useful
information and while we’re talking about your local area – welcome
to the neighbourhood – London! Don’t forget to get out there and explore. Chebet, shouldn’t they be out there exploring? Definitely, go out and explore London especially if
you’re an international student like me. The tube makes everything so easy. You can
use the app Citymapper, it will guide you. Don’t forget to do all the touristy things. Don’t forget
to go see Trafalgar Square and all the festivals. There’s tons of things to see and
do, but like I said before, you’ve got plenty of time to do it. So take things at your own pace, and enjoy yourself.
