The International Information Agency today begins to supervise the event called “St. George Ribbon” which was launched by RIA Novosti in 2005 in honor of the 60th anniversary of the victory. hey were involved in it for 5 years, but then lost interest, but the Ribbon survived. Today it is getting a second wind and became a symbol of human dignity in our modern times. In 2005 it was a symbol of our previous victories, a symbol of the deed of our fathers and grandfathers. Today it is a different symbol – a symbol of a new Russia, our devotedness to native values, a symbol of dignity. The St. George Ribbon becomes a distinctive mark. It is a drama, but people with St. George Ribbons on their chests are dying, and this not an image. They see a support in the Ribbon and see their future. For them the Ribbon is not simply a memory, but a hope for a decent way of life in the future. This is a symbol of values which should be protected with arms, unfortunately. So we support the campaign and will help it and report about people who are in a difficult situation today. If you see a person with a St. George Ribbon on his car, his bag, it means you can count on him, you can trust him. The Ribbon prolongs a radius of trust in our society. Sociologists have such a notion as “a radius of trust.” It can be short or long. I think our aim is to boost the level of trust in our society, i.e. make the radius longer. You know what they say in the East: “I know him.” Our task is to make people trust not only those whom we know personally, but also trust those whom we don’t know. We live in one big family, in a different system of values. I want this Ribbon to mark our family. From this point of view, the project has infinite prospects. There are Ribbons in space, they will be in the Far East, in various countries of the world, in Crimea, and I think it is great. There is no aggression in the symbol. There are only protection and devotedness to values of generations which made our Russia such a big and beautiful country. The ideology of the project is whether we feel sympathy for people in Eastern Ukraine, who have to protect the Ribbon, a system of values with arms. Yes, we feel sympathy for them. And the Ribbon is a symbol of this.
