Cavani scores as PSG beat L’OM once again in Le Classique | Ligue 1 | Talking Points

Hello and welcome to the Ligue 1 talking points
with me Julien Laurens. How was your weekend? Was it a sweet one like Laurent Blanc or a
disappointing and frustrating one like Marcelo Bielsa’s? If you haven’t subscribed to our
YouTube channel yet just click on the little g here to do so. We will have a look at what
happened in Ligue 1 this weekend and also a big feature on Le Classique. The incredible run in Lyon continues, they
have won their last five games. After beating Guingamp 3-1 and Lacazette has now scored
or assisted in each of his last six games. He scored his eleventh in 13 games on Sunday
and he has been called back by Didier Deschamps and deservedly so in the French squad for
the two games coming up against Albania and Sweden. Let’s see how long he can keep his
form up. There is a better streak than Lyon’s. Nantes
are unbeaten in eight games. The last time they did that was 14 years ago and guess what,
they won the league that year. Considering they were 13th last season and were unable
to sign anyone in the summer because of financial problems, they are now fifth in the table
and only three points behind Lyon in third. The work Michel Der Zakarian is doing is pretty
special and their fans are simply incredible. The stadium has been full for every single
home game and let’s hope it lasts. Claude Makelele was the first Ligue 1 manager
to be sacked, that was last Monday by Bastia and I wonder who is next. I have an idea – what
about René Girard – the Lille manager is simply incapable of stopping the bad run for
his team. It is just one win in the last 12 in all competitions. After being humiliated
in midweek in Europe by Everton they were humiliated again on Sunday at Rennes. Two
embarrassing performances, as bad as being 14th in the table. Disgraceful. Let’s focus now a bit on Le Classique. PSG
and Marseille and to make reference to Gary Lineker, Le Classique is a game played between
PSG and Marseille and at the end it’s always PSG who wins. The Parisians made it six wins
in the last six Classique’s after beating their arch rivals 2-0 on Sunday at the Parc
des Princes. 2-0 is actually the score in the last four encounters in Paris. The pattern
is pretty much always the same – Marseille usually start really well, they miss one or
two chances, then PSG score and control the game then see it off right at the end. Gignac
could have opened the scoring but hit the post in the first five minutes then Lucas
scored through a mistake. Ibra came on in the second half to be the boss and Edison
Cavani finished the game off in the last five minutes. However, Marseille are still leaders
in the table but just a point ahead of PSG and two ahead of Lyon.
