AZ Cardinals starters likely getting more playing time against Saints-Shot Clock

Yo, Greg Moore here, along with columnist
Kent Somers for another edition of the Shot Clock. We’re gonna talk about Cardinals football. They’ve got a game against New Orleans Saints. Week two of the preseason. Kent, what are you looking for tonight? You know, I’m curious about that 2016 draft
class. They’ve gotten nothing from that class, beginning
with first-round pick Robert Nkemdiche. Again, for a third consecutive preseason,
we’ve heard, “Robert’s on the right track. He’s making an impact in practice. He’s on track for a big season.” Will it actually come to fruition this time? And that class also includes Brandon Williams
at cornerback, who’s been a disappointment. Evan Boehm at guard/center, who’s been a disappointment. You know, the things I’m looking for, though,
are more about the offense and the run game, right? Like, I know there’s questions on the defense. I think the defense showed us some things
in that first week. They showed us a little bit of physicality,
but you know what? Also, the offense was able to run the ball
with the first unit in between the tackles. Right. Talk to me about what you saw from the first-unit
offense when they were out there. I mean they obviously played really well. David Johnson ripped off two 14-yard gains. Probably could have even got more out of that. I think he was surprised he got to the next
level so easily. Left guard Mike Iupati, who’s been injured
for a couple of years, played really well in that game. Also, I think, looking ahead to that game,
Josh Rosen’s supposed to take some snaps with the first team. I’m very curious about what that’s gonna look
like. I’m excited to see that, too, but here’s the
thing I’m wondering: Does the first team also include David Johnson? You know we’ve gotta watch for injuries in
the preseason. So would you keep Johnson on the field very
much? No. I’d keep the starting offensive line there. Right. Protect Josh Rosen. But I would not have David Johnson in there. I would not have Larry Fitzgerald in there. So whatever Rosen does, it would have a couple
of asterisks by it. But at least maybe he will be protected, which
he was not a week ago. For sure. And there’s a big opportunity for the wide
receivers. I don’t think Brice Butler’s gonna play. Of course Larry FItzgerald’s gonna be limited. So that’s an opportunity for Chad Williams. That’s an opportunity for Christian Kirk. That’s an opportunity for a lot of different
guys to separate themselves and get on the field. So we’re gonna watch to see who really helps
themselves make the roster. This has been the Shot Clock. For columnist Kent Somers, I’m Greg Moore.
